Things to collect in preparation for your potty training weekend.
The first thing you need to obtain is a place where your child is comfortable using the potty. And by comfortable, I mean safe and secure. Dealing with fear of falling off or falling in will only complicate the process. Let your child help choose the potty chair or adapter for your regular toilet seat that makes him feel most comfortable. Be sure he tries it out before you start the weekend training session.
Second, you will need a good supply of new underwear. Get your child involved in the purchase to build excitement.
Collect some games or art and craft supplies so that you will have plenty of activities to keep the two of you busy together during the training session. Pick activities that stimulate the imagination to aid the training process.
Next, you need to get plenty of easy to use clean up supplies. Get stuff your child can use. Moist big kid wipes can be a really useful. Avoid the baby stuff as you are trying to make a behavior shift.
If your training area has furniture or carpet that might be damaged by an accident, then make sure you get something to cover it or better yet choose a different training area. You want to be able to detach yourself from any problems or frustrations with accidents.
