Free Potty Training Chart

from the

Potty Training Site

Potty training charts are good for training children between the ages of two and three years old. Many places offer potty training charts, but the potty training chart I have found to be the most effective is the chart you and your child make together. You can use poster board, markers, crayons, etc. to create a progress chart for potty training.

Your child will enjoy decorating the poster board (the color they choose) with all types of art materials. Your child will also need to pick out a variety of stickers. Your local "dollar store" may be a good source for stickers. You can also use a calendar instead of poster board. Your child will enjoy placing stickers on his own toilet training chart or on a calendar.

Place the stickers on the potty training chart each time your child uses the toilet. After a set number of stickers have been met, you may decide to reward your child with a trip to the park, a lunch outing, extra story time at night, or you may watch their favorite television show or movie together.

The layout needs to be very simple so your child understands it.  Make a column for each day of the week. Make rows for different things you want to track. Give your child one kind of sticker for each pee in the potty and another for each poop in the potty.

You can also use stickers to chart mistakes but I prefer to ignore them rather than track them.  Since "What you think about expands'" focusing on the successes makes them happen all the more often.

Potty Training Stickers from Amazon:

Many people use a potty training chart to track the progress of their potty training efforts. If you are using a method that requires more than 5 hours, you may want to try a chart like this one.

Here is what Amazon says about the chart:

"Motivate and reward children using the 126 stickers. Stickers are circles of one inch in diameter and each sticker has an image of different potty related subjects - no repetition. You will find stickers with soap and towels (as reminders to wash hands), toilet rolls, a variety of potty chairs, cute motivational sayings like "You can do it!" and more. Many stickers even have toddler girls for children to imitate.

The yellow chart included opens up to hang like a calendar. After successful potty attempts, children are rewarded with a sticker to place on the chart provided. Also included are a few ideas on what a parent or childcare provider could discuss about each sticker, thus increasing communication between adult and child. Potty training works when it's fun!"

They also have a potty training chart for boys.

Potty Chart And Rewards

We have been using a potty progress chart in our day care room recently, and the children love it. We started using smiley faces but are now using stickers.

The children love getting the stickers and placing them by their name on the potty progress chart. Today one child had to show his Mom all his stickers that he had gotten for going to the potty. He was so excited and proud of his stickers.

Another good thing with our potty progress chart is that the children are learning to recognize their names. They are even learning what the letters are in their names.

This chart has been good for the children and it gives them something to show their parents each day.

One other thing we do is that each time a child poops in the potty they get one very special treat. This is the only time they get this special treat, and they are doing their best at pooping in the potty for the special treat. No one wants to be left behind in getting stickers or a special treat.

Because of the treats and stickers the children are having less accidents which helps them to feel good about their accomplishments. They are also learning that they have more time to play if they don't have to be changed. The parents are also noticing a difference in that the children are having less accidents at home.

You may want to try using a potty progress chart in your home or have your child's day care use one to help with potty training. It works, and the children are happy and proud of what they are accomplishing.
